CNST Lab
Computer and Network Systems Research
CNST Lab
The Computer and Network System Technologies (CNST) Lab was founded in February 2016 as a lab of the Department of Applied Informatics of University of Macedonia, Greece. The mission of CNST-Lab is two-fold: (i) to coordinate and promote research activities revolving around computer and networked systems with the aim of research innovation and excellence in topics, such as 6G networks, edge/cloud computing, network security, parallel and distributed systems, as well as quantum computing, (ii) to promote and deliver educational and mentoring activities to undergraduate and graduate students, through courses, seminars, and workshops.
CNST-Lab includes 5 faculty members, one laboratory teaching staff member plus several graduate and doctoral students, pursuing Master or Ph.D theses under the supervision of faculty members. The lab has secured substantial third-party funding from EU and Greek funding agencies (e.g., GSRI) and has established collaborations with internationally acclaimed academic and industrial partners.
CNST-Lab operates a medium-scale experimental facility, encompassing 7 Dell rack servers, workstations, 15 mini PCs, rack and industrial switches, a VPN router, as well as specialized equipment such as Netronome Agilio SmartNICs and programmable Wi-Fi cards. The testbed resources are managed using state-of-the-art solutions, such as Xen Orchestra and Kubernetes.
The lab is renowned for its commitment to open-source, with various software releases made available to the research community under non-restrictive licenses.
